The Sound Studies and Sonic Arts Master’s Programme is participating in the UdK Rundgang on July 17-19 with various programmes freely open to the public.
‘SLACK’, as a condition of ‘FERTIG’, enables moments of pause, presence and play. This year’s theme opposes enforced productivity, thus enabling cheeky creativity and reflection.
The main exhibition will take place at Lietzenburger Straße 45, where students, in collaboration with various departments and international institutions, will exhibit audiovisual and interactive installations and performances. Each work incorporates sound from various perspectives, aiming to facilitate audience engagement through an array of sonic research.

‘Trans-Connect’
Initiated by the Goethe-Institut in Georgia, ‘Trans-Connect’ marks the culmination of an artistic exchange developed in collaboration with the master’s program Sound Studies and Sonic Arts at UdK Berlin. The project brought together twelve artists based in Tbilisi and Berlin, working across sound art, performance, and time-based media. After a residency stay in Georgia in October 2025 (‘Connect-Disconnect’), the final works – many developed through long-distance collaboration – were presented across the Goethe-Institut building in Tbilisi from March 20 to April 3rd. These works are now refined and updated to exhibit on the third floor of Lietzenburger Straße 45, as part of the UdK Rundgang.

‘Nearly Nothing’
or: replaceable – irreplaceable
This collaboration at the UdK UNI.T Theatre on Saturday July 18th, from 18:00-22:00, is where BA and MA Costume Design students will stage experimental scenes, exploring topics of variation, series, and the imperfect. From 11 a.m. onwards, further project presentations will be shown in the foyer of UNI.T.
What is essential for artistic work? What “nearly nothing” signifies scenic visibility and yet still an impact? Does a great absence make a small presence stronger?
What effect do small shifts have? What effect do variations have? Are fragments or incompleteness sufficient to visualize the supposedly whole and “perfect”?
The music and sounds are provided by 18 Sound Studies students, each paired with a corresponding Costume Design student. Thus, every scene represents a 1:1 collaborative attempt to portray notions of the ‘Nearly Nothing’.
The music used in this show will be available to purchase as a compilation album from Sound Studies, as curated by Jack Savidge. There will also be a listening session for this album at ‘After’, on Wednesday July 15th at 19:00.
