Most of us heard or read the stories about the magical creatures appearing to the impoverished and the imperiled, granting them the three wishes. Be it the Syrian Aladdin and the wonderful lamp, the Irish leprechaun and his proverbial pot of gold or the Russian fisherman and the golden fish, in all of these stories the protagonists receive a chance to force the hand of destiny and to improve their current situations. More often than not these tales will end with the hero abusing their chance and making things worse than before. The stories surrounding these entities often convey moral lessons about responsibility and the consequences of one’s wishes. The psychological processes involved in wish-making can reveal an individual’s values and ethical considerations, highlighting the tension between self-interest and collective good. The narratives serve as cautionary tales, reminding individuals of the potential repercussions of their desires and the importance of thoughtful wishing. This aspect emphasizes the development of moral reasoning and the integration of personal aspirations with broader societal implications in other words they raise the very question of the personal responsibility, which lies behind any wish-making. The Unwishing Machine provides a safe space to become aware of the processes the run behind one’s wish-making, togther with an interface that allows the visitors to halt these processes, once they are recognized as harmful for oneself or the environment.
