Participants can register for the workshop by sending an email with the day and time of choice to mari.t.carvalho@gmail.com. Vaccination certificate and negative test are required (including those with booster vaccinations).
Mariana Carvalho will share the process of “me alimento de vozes” [I feed myself from voices], an artistic project that she has been immersed in since 2019. She is currently working on it as part of her Project Phase, through the production of a solo album and an artistic research publication. Me alimento de vozes is a series of performative works that explores sonorous relations inside the body during and around the act of eating voices. To eat, she shares an inner listening perspective while asking people to explicitly sing inside her mouth or placing speakers with previously collected voices inside of it. It is a process of reception, internalization, filtering and transformation – a ritual of embodiment.
For SoundsAbout, she will give a talk, telling about the ongoing investigation, the conceptual framework and the current artistic research. She might share some non-finished tracks for the album to be released at the end of the month by Sello Postal. A conversational dynamic with the public is desired. Discussed topics involve anthropophagy, feminist epistemologies, other-than-human approaches, voice, migration, inner listening, vomiting, embodiment, technological mediation, togetherness, intimacy, contact, artistic research, journals, autoetnography.
For the workshop, she will conduct a somatic practice around voice and listening, working on sensorial aspects, inner listening and mouthlistening, or voice-eating. She will share with the participants some of the practices she has been doing with herself, based on eutony, Deep Listening practices and personal experimentation. The group will also reflect upon different ways of registering and sharing embodied experience, through practices of writing, journaling, drawing and conversation.
